One difference however is that Paul is known for his punches whereas Hwoarang is known for his kicks.Both characters (along with a few others) received new costumes in Tekken 7.Both characters got new hairstyles in Tekken 4 (Hwoarang’s spiky army hair and Paul’s long hair).A primary martial arts costume and a secondary biker one. Both characters are avid motorcyclists and traditionally have two default costumes.Both get involved in street fights as a means of making money. Both characters are known to be street fighters.Jin and Hwoarang did the same before the third tournament. Paul and Kazuya fought to a draw before the first tournament. Literally their respective rivalries with there respective Mishima begin the same way.Whereas Paul was originally the rival character to the original protagonist Kazuya. Hwoarang took over the role of the rival to the protagonist.In a way Hwoarang is a successor to Paul. Classic Tekken characters Hwoarang and Paul Phoenix share many similarities.
